Dame Rosalind Savill, DBE FSA FBA, 12 May 1951 – 27 December 2024.

We are all deeply saddened by the recent death of Ros Savill, a remarkable scholar, tutor and friend to so many of us. For nearly five decades Ros supported Attingham as a lecturer, a member of the advisory council and as a trustee, and we shall miss her hugely. Deeply convinced of the importance of close-up object study, from the early days of her first Summer School (1975) Ros shared her energy and passion for the decorative arts with countless generations of Attingham participants and showed how joy and laughter can be part of serious study. We will none of us forget the way in which 18th-century French porcelain came to life in her hands at Boughton or Firle or Goodwood or Windsor, nor her extraordinary command of facts and her limitless admiration for the creative vision and technical excellence of the men and women of the Sèvres manufactory.

We will all have Attingham memories of Ros and if you would like to share your recollections we would love to hear from you. In due course we shall find a way of commemorating Ros and her deep commitment to Attingham, but in the meantime and on behalf of all Attingham alumni, we send our sincerest condolences to her family.
