Our guest lecturer for the 2026 Attingham Annual Alumni Reunion on 2 February, at the Society of Antiquaries of London, was Sir Jonathan Marsden, who gave a special lecture, “The Royal Collection in Three Dimensions”.
Jonathan spoke about his newly published catalogue, *European Sculpture in the Collection of His Majesty The King*. In this special lecture for Attingham, he compared the use and disposition of sculpture in the royal palaces and in country houses, giving us unparalleled insights into sculpture in the Royal Collection.
A Summer School alumnus (’93), Jonathan was Director of the Royal Collection and Surveyor of The Queen’s Works of Art from 2010–2017 and is known to many alumni, having lectured on twenty-one Royal Collection Studies programmes. He is also a Patron of The Attingham Trust, and we were delighted that he was able to join us and share his expertise.
The evening was also a wonderful opportunity for alumni to reconnect with friends and colleagues over a glass or two of wine.
The recording of Sir Jonathan’s lecture is now available to watch online for free.
