Crafting Everyday Life: Art Manufactories in the Seventeenth and Eighteenth Centuries
Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne / INHA, Paris
11–12 June 2026
The conference aims to reconsider manufactories as dynamic sites of artistic production, technical innovation, and social organisation. It will examine the relationships between artists and artisans, creative processes such as copying and translation between media, and the circulation of motifs, materials, and expertise across France and Europe.
Particular attention will be paid to the internal organisation of manufactories (royal, privileged, or private), production practices, mobility and networks, and the transfer of forms and techniques. The focus is on art and armament manufactories, as well as selected artistic textiles.
